PolicyWest.net is a static (not database-driven) web site that I made for friend here in Alameda. While the name of his law practice is the combination of two very generic words ("policy" + "west"), we decided to give special attention to building SEO (Search Engine Optimization) terms into the very fabric of his site to insure he could be found on Google.
Our efforts paid off handsomely. Just try googling: policy west
and see what you get.
You might ask: how did you get the #1 spot out of 364,000,000 queries?
Yes, it helps that the domain name contains the search phrase. But it takes much more than that. This is what we did for PolicyWest.net:
1. Used the words "policy west" in as many file names as possible, including web page file names and image file names.
2. Used these key words in image alt text and also utilized hand-crafted meta-tags being careful not to trigger off the metaspam police.
3. Created an XML sitemap and registered it with Google and Yahoo.
4. Provided outgoing links from my Superclean portfolio pages and also my Boegerweb.com blog.
